Azienda Agricola Elvio Cogno is an Italian wine producer, located just south of the Barolo comune in the Langhe area of Piedmont. Elvio Cogno was formed in 1990 when the Cogno family purchased the current winery and house, however the first Barolo that the Cogno family bottled was the great vintage of 1961. Just three years later in 1964, far ahead of his times, Elvio Cogno decided to write the name of the vineyard on the label: Brunate. It was a sign of pride and knowledge of the uniqueness of his wines and of the terroir that helped to create them. The family had been growing grapes and producing wine for many generations. In 2012, the company won a UNESCO award for the restoration work of their farmhouse in the sympathetic installation of new facilities.
Barolo Cascina Nuova proves that even the youngest vineyards can produce an excellent Barolo, albeit easily accessible, more immediate and of wide appeal. Created for a public that wants to get to know the wine gradually before moving onto more complex examples, it might even be defined as a benchmark among Barolo wines.
Born to satisfy the curiosity of consumers keen to have a more immediate understanding of Barolo, the wine is bright garnet red in color with orange tints. Pleasing and immediate, it offers scents of flowers and light, delicate spices. The mouth is agreeably rounded, juicy and fresh, with just the right balance between pleasantness and elegance. The aftertaste is very harmonious with a mineral, aromatic finish.
