Château le Gay is a leading Bordeaux wine estate in Pomerol, producing Merlot-based wines. Its reputation has risen steadily in the new millennium, and has garnered high ratings from critics. There are 10.5 hectares (26 acres) of vines in one holding, planted on clay and gravel soils in the north of the Pomerol plateau. Some 90 percent of plantings are Merlot, with the remainder Cabernet Franc. Wine is made from vines that are at least 40 years old.
The wine opens with nuances of flowers, truffles, chocolate, espresso and black cherries and wet earth. The deeply colored wine is intense, full-bodied, powerful, mouth-filling and long, finishing with layers of chocolate covered black cherries, plums, and hints of boysenberry. Give it a few years in the cellar and it will offer at least 2 decades of fabulous tasting experiences.
