Estate Argyros is a wine producer located on the island of Santorini in Greece. The vineyards are planted on volcanic soils and cover 26 hectares (65 acres) of land on the island. Native grape varieties are planted there, making wines in a range of styles, from dry whites to sweet vinsanto. The estate was originally founded in 1903 by Georgios Argyros, who started making local wines using traditional Santorinian methods. Argyros' vineyards are situated at altitudes ranging from 35-150m (115-500ft) above sea level, on the classic, dark volcanic soils of the island. The vines are cultivated in the traditional basket style which shelters the grapes from Santorini's strong winds.
Overripe grapes are strictly selected and dried under the hot sun of Santorini for about fourteen days. After fermentation the wine matures for 3 years in concrete tanks and then ages for 16 years in old wooden tanks.
Its color is deep copper. The aromatic evolution of the wine in the glass is sensational, with dried fruits such as plum and raisin, orange peel chocolate, caramel, honey, coffee, nuts and honeycomb. The flavor concentration and freshness in the mouth are underlined by the amazing acidity that balances the sweetness, leaving an endless aftertaste.
