Podere Sapaio is an Italian wine producer located in Bolgheri, in Tuscany. The property spans 40 hectares (99 acres) of vines and it produces red wines made from Bordeaux grape varieties. The estate was founded in 1999 by Massimo Piccin, when he decided to follow his great passion that he has always carried, a love of gastronomy and wine. At the root of his love there was a strong determination and a respect for the earth and its surrounding environment. The vines were planted the following year, with the first vintage being the 2004.
Sapaio, is the winery’s flagship label, born as a Bolgheri DOC Superiore and became Toscana IGT as of the harvest of 2015. A conscious choice made to fairly value the wine and the land that bears it; freeing it from the confines of specific designation and allowing greater freedom and harmony with the territory.
This 2016 vintage is a blend of 70% Cabernet Sauvignon, 20% Petit Verdot & 10% Cabernet Franc. It’s so vivid and polished on the nose, showing blackcurrant, blueberry and lavender aromas that follow through to a full body, firm and very silky tannins and a long and flavorful finish. A well-balanced, fragrant and absolutely seamless wine that although it will get better with age, is already gorgeous to taste.
